Garnet Birthstone

     Garnet, the birthstone of the Month of January, is also the anniversary stone of the second year of marriage. There are a number of trade and variety names for garnet, most of them are for the particular colour of the species. These include Hessonite, melanite, malaya, almandite, andranite, grossularite, prypone and rhodonite. Garnet displays the greatest variety of colour out of any mineral, occurring in every colour except blue. Some garnets exhibit a colour change phenomenon - one colour in natural light another in iridescent light.
