Crystal Jewelry & Prices

Synthetic crystal is a fine, high-quality glass invented in the 17th century in England. In order to be considered crystal rather than simple glass, the product must contain at least 10% lead oxide. The lead oxide is attributed as providing the glass with extraordinary qualities of brilliance, and a sound and suitable texture for cutting or engraving.

Crystal is also a way to describe the structural make up of something - something can be "crystalline." A lot of semi-precious gemstones are crystalline. For example, quartz comes in a crystal form. Amethyst, Onyx, Jasper, and Bloodstone also come in crystal forms.

Natural gemstones and crystals are found in nature and natural crystals are used in crystal jewelry. As well, non-natural crystals are used in crystal jewelry, such as Czech crystals, Austrian crystals, and Swarovski crystals. These are manmade, high quality glass crystal jewelry pieces.

Natural crystals sometime have fissures and other inherent qualities that they receive from nature, giving them an inherently rough and natural look. As well, crystal can be cleaned and highly faceted to give it a more finished look.

Prices:
Because crystals come in all different types of gems and sizes and types of jewelry it is hard to say what they will cost. They can cost from lower than $50 to thousands of dollars.
