Fine Jewelry
Fine jewelry is jewelry made with fine
materials. As opposed to costume jewelry, fine jewelry
is made with expensive materials, such as precious metals (i.e., gold
and silver) and precious stones (i.e., diamonds, emeralds)
and things such as pearls.
Assessing Fine Jewelry:
Much of the jewelry sold and represented
as "fine jewelry" may not even live up to the lowest
of standards. The best way to tell the difference is to go with a business
or retailer that you can trust. For example, a retailer that is a member
of the American Gem Association would be someone you could trust. As
well, it is important to be as educated as possible before making the
purchase - so you have come to the right place!
Jewelry achieves its value through quality manufacturing skills and
a uniqueness. When shopping for it it is important to understand the
value and quality of a gem,
as well as the jewelers work. An AGS certified Gemologist or Appraiser
is specifically educated in the science of gems and the art of jewelry
metals. You can be ethically assured of the value of fine jewelry due
to this AGS training, credentials and experience. See the various links
on this website for information on determining the quality of certain
materials and gems
used in jewelry. A few types of jewelry that could be considered
fine jewelry due to the use of rare make or stones include custom
jewelry and crystal
jewelry
