Caring for Opal

     It is important to make sure that you don't expose your opal too often to water. It should be cleaned gently with mild detergent in warm water with a soft toothbrush or cloth. Avoid bleach, chemicals and cleanerswhen caring for your opal jewelry.

     Doublets or triplets can be wiped with a damp cloth but should not be submerged in water. Ultrasonic cleaners are not good for cleaning opals as the vibrations can cause cracking. It is best to store your opal in a padded cloth bag for protection. For longer periods of storage putting it in a sealed plastic bag wrapped in cotton wool with a few drops of water will prevent drying and cracking.
