Wholesale JewelryBuying jewelry can be very expensive when you pay retail prices. Often retail prices are so inflated that by buying from wholesale jewelers you can save up to 99%. It is useful to browse wholesale jewelry options when making big purchases. The Internet is a huge source of wholesale jewelry. However, many wholesale jewelry stores require that you have a resale permit before ordering. There are thousands of wholesalers on the net and even more offline that work with eBay, website sellers, flea market dealers and small retailers. The large wholesalers receive thousands of inquiries a day from people wishing to purchase jewelry at wholesale when they are "real" businesses. These requests are routinely discarded. It takes certain things to be considered a real business. You need a sales tax number or business licence. These are issued by various states and for the most part are less than $50 and you can apply online. At your state or provinces home page, look for a link for a business licence. Several states have links called "Setting up a New Business" that will give you all the information you need to get started. You will also need letterhead, business cards, a checking account in the name of your business and blank purchase orders. After contacting the wholesale company, many of them will ask you to fax a catalogue/price list request on your letterhead with your sales-tax number before taking your request seriously. New buyers usually have to prepay for shipment. Most established wholesalers will advance credit to buyers after they have paid for three or four orders. There are some wholesalers out there that may not be reliable. Therefore, you should try to stay away from companies that have not been in business longer than a couple of years. Gaining entry to trade shows and wholesale marts will be difficult. They will usually ask for several items of identification to prove you are in the "trade." The first time you visit, take business cards, letterhead, a copy of your sales tax or business licence, blank purchase orders and you business chequebook. You may have to show all of these items to gain entry. It is worth it to try and gain entry to these tradeshows. Dealers offer special trade-show prices, and you have the opportunity to make new contacts and negotiate face-to-face. You can also find products no one is selling online. Despite the obvious savings you want to make sure that the quality is not reflected in the discounted price.
